Family Day - Chinese New Year

To celebrate the Chinese New Year, this family workshop for adults and children (5+) will begin with UK China Peforming Arts showcasing three dance pieces; the Traditional Drum Dance, Long Sleeves Dance and a Fan Dance. Hangyu Zhou, founder of UKCPA, will then teach some Fan Dance techniques as well as some basic Chinese Dance steps and hand positions. Finally, everybody taking part in the workshop will be able to try some of the traditional costumes and explore some of the props. Photos are allowed.

UK China Performing Arts (UKCPA) is a professional Chinese dance Academy which emphasises on the principles of professional, pure and enjoyable dancing with the main vision to spread Chinese Arts and Culture here in the UK. Through facilitating education on Professional Chinese Classical/Folk dance, UKCPA creates a bridge between cultures by conveying the colourful culture of China to people in the UK and providing a professional learning environment for any children and adults who love dancing. We teach traditional Chinese dance like Ribbon dance, Long Sleeves Dance, Fan Dance, Drum Dance etc. Our teachers have also created contemporary dance works with Chinese elements. Hangyu Zhou is the founder of UKCPA and a Grade II National Artist of China. She graduated from Beijing Dance Academy with Chinese Classical Dance in 2011. Later she worked at the Chinese Opera and Dance Theatre and completed a MA in Dance Studies at Roehampton University in 2016. She has won the Silver Medal of the National Lotus Cup Dance Competition, the bronze medal of the Dance Contest of the Five Provinces of North China, and the Silver Medal of the Beijing Dance Competition.
